other family: N/A
children: N/A
birthplace: London
date of birth: June 21st, 1856.
overall history: Anthony Mark Hope was born on a warm summer evening in 1856 to Mark and Abigail Hope. Ever since he was young, when he went to the market with his mum, he would wander off to see the big ships docked in the harbor. He would happily sit and watch them unload cargo; listen as they yelled out words that perhaps he should’ve have heard at a young age; and day dream of when he would sail off with them.
Illness was great in London, especially during winter. In early February of 1861, both of his parents succumbed to Influenza within hours of each other. Anthony had tried hard to do what he could for them in this tough time, especially for his mother, who had grown weak after bearing a child; who was stillborn, just the month before.
Heart broken, he moved in with his Aunt Josephine, who resided not too far away, and stayed with her only three months. She would do little things to tick him off, and she was incredibly strict; no shoes in the house, hair must be kept absolutely neat (in fact, she once tried to cut it) and all chores must be done by sundown or no dinner.
One night, in a rage, the four year old packed what little belongings he had and ran off into the dark of the night. He wandered around hopelessly for hours until reality hit him; his parents were dead; he had nowhere else to go. He was only four. In tears, fell asleep by the docks and was awakened the next morning by the sailors getting ready to set sail on another voyage. A smile spread across the young lad’s face as he approached the enormous vessel…
(ps i worked on this falling asleep...sorry its not as good as my one to Murderous Saints)
